No. The system runs from a deep-cycle battery kept charged by the solar panel. That is the main reason homeowners choose solar when the gate entrance is far from the house or the driveway is too long to make trenching practical.
Why does my solar gate work in the afternoon but not in the morning?
That pattern points to a battery that is not holding a full charge overnight. A battery load test and voltage check will confirm whether the battery is degraded or the panel is undersized for the motor’s daily draw. Replacing a weak battery usually resolves it.
Will a solar system keep up with a heavy wrought steel gate?
It can, but the motor torque rating, battery amp-hour capacity, and panel wattage all need to match the gate’s weight and your daily cycle count. A system sized for a light aluminum gate will underperform on a heavy steel frame.
What happens if I delay fixing a solar gate that keeps stalling?
A battery that is repeatedly over-discharged degrades faster and can damage the control board. Continued strain on an undersized motor shortens its service life. Addressing the fault early usually costs less than replacing multiple components later.
